LEARN-TO-SWIM
Whether you are looking for baby/toddler swimming lessons, learn-to-swim classes, adult swimming instruction, or stroke development, Steyn City Learn-to-Swim has it all!
The outstanding indoor heated facility at Steyn City Aquatic Centre provides change rooms and showers. All teachers are professionally qualified and experienced teachers and are registered with Swimming South Africa.
Since every child needs to know how to swim in order to survive in and around water, swimming lessons should be a compulsory, non-negotiable part of every child’s education. This one co-curricular activity is possibly the best investment you will ever make. Besides equipping children with a vital life skill, you will be enhancing, promoting, and improving their visual and auditory skills, general muscle tone, respiratory function, coordination, body space awareness, and bone density.
BABY SWIMMING | Ages 6 months to 36 months | Teacher-Student Ratio 1:6
Our programme is gentle and fun-filled, and the parent or caregiver accompanies the child in the pool during the lesson. Rhymes and songs are used as a medium of instruction and toddlers are taught through structured play and praise. Every game or activity is swimming-skill related.
LEARN-TO-SWIM | Ages 3 years old and over | Teacher-Student Ratio 1:4
Learn-to-Swim classes are independent classes without the parent/caregiver in the water, for beginners aged 3 years and over. Children are taught at their own pace. All teaching is in groups as interaction with others is fun and competition is a great motivator.
Children are not grouped in ages but, more often, according to ability. As soon as we notice that a child is progressing beyond the level of most in the group, we recommend a change to a stronger class so that children are not prevented from reaching their full potential.
STROKE DEVELOPMENT | Ages 6 years old and over | Teacher-Student Ratio 1:6
Once skills have become a learned response, children are then taught to extend and build on their swimming ability through an effective stroke development programme in preparation for competitive swimming. Swimmers are taught the FINA rules, good sportsmanship, ethics of the sport, racing/competitive starts and turns, and stroke drills.
The discipline of being involved in a structured stroke development programme assists with the supply of oxygen to the brain, which, in turn, is believed to improve concentration for academic studies.
Swimming is not only fun but also is a great way to keep fit and make friends!
