Welcome from the Executive Head

Welcome to our beautiful school where all who make up our community strive to achieve our potential in every area of school life. Our school is a place of learning, laughter, creativity, participation, exploration and joy and we look forward to sharing all of this with you and your children. The journey through school is an important and exciting one and we are privileged to be a part of your child’s unique educational experience.

It has been a remarkable privilege to watch the rapid growth of Steyn City School. Each year we witness two extraordinary moments. The first is the Bell Ringing Ceremony where our incoming college students ring themselves out of the Preparatory School and into the College. The second is the Valediction Ceremony where our Grade 0 Class sings to the Grade 12 Class before they ring themselves out of the School for the last time. I am always moved by these simple yet profound celebrations of our children’s journey through our school. They speak to the heart of who we are.

From the hockey astro to the Aquatic Centre to the beautifully equipped laboratories and technology centres and the magnificent Mitchell Theatre, this is a school that sits comfortably among the top schools in the world. The remarkable architecture reminds us that schools do not need to look institutional anymore and that light and open spaces are important for children to grow and learn. But schools are so much more than a building. They really are about the heart and the spirit of the people in them. Our spirit is already woven into the fabric of our community and it is a pioneering one.

We discover knowledge with curiosity and delight, we compete with commitment and confidence, we perform with creativity and artistry, we live with care and respect, we lead with courage and restraint, and we serve with humility and generosity. We cherish our African roots and dare to make a distinctive difference as significant global citizens, as we live out the school motto, ‘We Reach Beyond’.
